Alfred A. Iacovetta

Alfred A. "Big Al" Iacovetta, age 84, of Erie, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at the VA Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born October 12, 1925 in Forli, Italy, a son of the late Frank and Pasqualina Melaragno Iacovetta.

He lived in Erie most of his life. He served in The US Army during World War II with the 824th Tank Destroyer Battalion under General Patton. He was a partner in Iacovetta and White Builders and owned and operated the Swinging Door Café for over 20 years, retiring in 1983. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Iacovetta.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Dorothy R. Radecki Iacovetta of Erie; one son Frank A. Icovetta and his wife Cindy of Erie; two daughters, Barbara A. Ferrare and husband Jamie of Oakton, VA and Linda J. Iacovetta and husband Philip Privitelli of San Francisco, CA; one sister, Anette Rocco and husband Gene of Erie. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Erin & Joe Ferrare, Philip and Paolo Privitelli and Kaley and Briana Iacovetta.

Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm and may attend a service there on Monday at 9 am followed by a Funeral Mass at Saint Paul RC Church, 1617 Walnut Street, at 9:30 am. A Christian Vigil Service will be held at the Funeral Home on Sunday at 3 pm. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
