Angelo Bongiorno
Angelo Bongiorno, 91, of Erie, went home to his Lord on Thursday, January 15, 2015. He was born March 5, 1923 in Erie, a son of the late Filippo and Maria Santa Bevelacqua Bongiorno.
He served his country with honor and pride during World War II being assigned the head of security for the Nuremberg Trials. He returned to Erie after the war to develop a family construction company and later co-founded Girard Plastics Company where he finished his successful career.
Angelo was a selfless, gentle, inspiring and God-loving person. He touched many people and changed their lives for the better.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Aischa E. Bent Bujama Bongiorno; two brothers, Charles and Michael Bongiorno and one sister, Carmela DiAngi.
He is survived by his son, Angelo B. Bongiorno and wife Jackie of Erie; one brother, John Bongiorno of Erie; a grandson, Brett Benner and wife Lauren of Philadelphia, PA and a great-grandson, Nicholas Benner. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call at The John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and may attend a Funeral Service on Tuesday at First Assembly of God, 8150 Oliver Road, Erie, PA 16509, at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will be in Erie Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Assembly of God.
