Angelo G. Susi
Angelo G. "Ange" Susi, age 84, of Millcreek, formerly of 1159 West Sixth Street, died Sunday, September 9, 2007 at Saint Vincent Health Center.
He was born February 21, 1923 in Lewis Run, PA, a son of the late Jesse Susi, Sr., and Theresa Ranalli Susi. He graduated from Bradford High School and served in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theatre Operations. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Edinboro University and his Master's Degree from Allegheny College. He was a professional musician and played in many clubs throughout the Erie area under the "Ange Susi Band." He had worked for the Erie School District as a teacher, counselor, and a principal, retiring after 37 years. He was a member of Saint Andrew RC Church and Saint Andrew Athletic Association. He was one of the founder's of the Giuseppe Mazzini Civic Association serving as their first President. He was a member of the American Legion Millcreek Post #773, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Elks Club, Zukor Club, East Erie Tuner's and also a member of the Pennsylvania School Retirement Group. He was a member of the Erie School Employee's Credit Union (now Erie Federal Credit Union) for over 47 years, retiring as Chairman of the Board.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Mayme Cocco, Mary Schiappa, Julia Schiappa, and Helen Vigilotti and three brothers, Tony, Frank and Humbert Susi.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Florence Barberio Susi of Millcreek; three sons, Jesse Susi, M.D., and his wife Janet of St. Louis, MO, Mark Susi of Portland, OR, and Thomas Susi of West Springfield, PA; eight grandchildren, Bryan, Stephani, Nicholas, Scott, Karyn, Matthew, Jason, and James; and one great-granddaughter, Clair Marie. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Wednesday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and may attend a service there on Thursday at 9:15am followed by a Funeral Mass at Saint Andrew RC Church, 1116 West Seventh Street, at 10:00am. Entombment will be in Gate of Heaven Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be made to the John Kanzius Research Fund, c/o Erie Community Foundation, 125 West Sixth Street, Erie, PA 16509.
