Anthony "Tony" DiBacco

Anthony "Tony" DiBacco, age 97, of Erie, died Monday, June 4, 2012 at Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center after a brief illness. He was born November 9, 1914 in Betulla, PA, a son of the late Pietro and Carmella Petrella DiBacco.

He lived in Erie most of his life. He served in the United States Marines during World War II in the 21st Marines 3rd Division participating in the Battles of Iwo Jima and Guam.

He co-owned Di Sils Cafe and Pizza Shop for over 30 years. He enjoyed traveling and talking to people from all walks of life.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, William DiBacco, Rome DelFucco and Dominick DelFucco and seven sisters, Rose DiMattio, Celia Perrotta, Pius Jordano, Yolanda Cacchione, Jean Hill, Stella DiBacco and Antonina Fabrizi.

He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Noemi Gerbi DiBacco of Erie; three daughters, Carol Rea of Auburn, ME, Sharen Aaron and husband Thomas and Karen Heberle and husband Thomas both of Erie and one brother, Louis DiBacco and wife Mary of Panama City, FL. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and may attend a Funeral Mass on Friday at Saint Paul RC Church, 1617 Walnut Street, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery.
