Barbara M. Holmstrom Anderson

Barbara M. "Barb" Holmstrom Anderson, age 84, of Fairview, formerly of Zimmerly Road, died Sunday, January 30, 2011 at her home. She was born August 8, 1926 in Erie, a daughter of the late William W. and Tyyne Baker Holmstrom.

An Erie Business Center graduate, Barb was a member of Abiding Hope (formerly Our Savior's) Lutheran Church for over 50 years where she served on the Worship and Music Committee and Altar Guild. She was a food pantry volunteer, Girl Scout Leader, a season ticket holder of The Erie Playhouse and a supporter of The City Mission and WQLN.

She treasured her children and grandchildren, promoting their education and sharing with them, her love of reading and dogs. She loved to shop for "her kids". Shopping was a sport and she always reveled in finding a good bargain. She enjoyed flowers, dark chocolate, gardening, knitting and sewing and watching the squirrels, cardinals and other birds at the feeder outside her window.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Robert W. Anderson and one brother, William E. Holmstrom.

She is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Duran and husband Juan of Fairview and Martha "Marty" Harris and husband Gregg of Erie; one sister, Linda Shepard and husband Larry of Milford, NJ and three grandchildren Caitlyn Karaisz, Robert and Carlyn Duran all of Fairview. She is also survived by two step-grandchildren, Andrew Duran and wife Erin and John Duran and wife Bambi.

Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Wednesday from 3 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday at Abiding Hope Lutheran Church, 5312 Peach Street, from 9 a.m. until time of Funeral Service there at 10 a.m. with Reverend John Coleman officiating. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
