Bernardino S. "Benny" Donatucci
Bernardino S. "Benny" Donatucci, age 91, formerly of West 43rd Street, died Wednesday, July 4, 2007 at Golden Living Health Care following a brief illness.
He was born October 15, 1915 in Erie, a son of the late Geraldo and Domenica Miraldi Donatucci. He lived in Erie his entire life. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and participated in the Normandy Invasion. He worked for General Electric for 39 years. He was an avid sportsman; a catcher for the Boston Red Sox Farm System, in the late 1930's played baseball for the Lynchberg Greys and played semi-pro ball from 1952 until 1960. He also was an avid golfer and bowler, a master at crossword puzzles and loved children and nature.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Nicholas, Vincent and John Donatucci and two sisters, Mary Nanea and Ann Donatucci.
He is survived by a sister-in-law, Mrs. Vincent (Lena M.) Donatucci of Erie; many nieces and nephews and a very dear friend, Mary Bonaminio of Erie.
Friends may call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and may attend a service there on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Stephen RC Church, 1237 West 21st Street at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
