Betty DeSantis Rush

Betty DeSantis Rush went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday evening August 3, 2010 at St. Vincent Hospital surrounded by her beloved family and special friends. She was born on October 4, 1928 in Erie to the late Joseph and Celia Trevison DeSantis. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Floyd Rush and two brothers, Albert and Henry DeSantis.

Betty lived her entire life in Erie, attending Strong Vincent High School and St. Paul Church. She worked in housekeeping at St. Vincent Hospital for over 20 years retiring in 1996. Betty was a lifelong Catholic and volunteered for many church activities. She was a member of the St. Paul's Rosary Society. Betty showed great courage and strength and relied heavily on her faith in God and the Blessed Mother throughout her life and especially during her recent health issues. Her greatest joy in life was her family and close friends. She especially enjoyed spending time and talking to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing the lottery, bingo and visiting the casinos.

Betty was the beloved mother of Albert and his wife Debbie, Donald, and Floyd and his wife Celsa all of Erie; grandmother of Albert, Pamela, Angela, Kimberly, Caleb, Mollie, Hannah, Bradley and Michelle and great-grandmother of Ryan, Madyson, Gracie, Allison, Abigail, Annabelle, Elizabeth, Abigail, Emma, Annabelle and Cecilya. She is also survived by her sister, Dolores Bizjak and her husband Joseph, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm and may attend a service there on Saturday at 9 am followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Paul RC Church, 1617 Walnut Street at 9:30 am. A Christian Wake Service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 3 pm. Internment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Emmaus Soup Kitchen, 345 East 9 Street, Erie, PA 16503.
