Caesar David Montevecchio
Caesar David Montevecchio passed away on August 10, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at the Veterans Administration Community Living Center. Caesar was born on March 27, 1934 in Erie, the son of the late Carmen and Tilba Montevecchio.
Caesar was a veteran of the US Army. He was an exceptional athlete and an avid sports fan and especially loved baseball, football, and golf. In 1949, he was a member of the first city championship football team at Cathedral Prep, and after graduation played football at the University of Detroit.
He worked at Hammermill Paper and enjoyed many close friendships throughout his life. More than anything, Caesar loved spending time with his family, especially his fourteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Caesar was preceded in death by his daughters Wendy Braine and Dina Montevecchio.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Bonnie Steiner Montevecchio; son Jay Montevecchio (Michelle); son David Montevecchio; son Bryan Gromacki (Tamara); daughter Leslee Hutchinson; daughter Michelle Zehner; son Caesar A. Montevecchio (Arlene); brother Albert Montevecchio (Marian); sister Candita Cancilla (Paul); Carmen Montevecchio (Angel); and son-in-law Greg Braine. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Austin, Danielle, Carli, John, Julia, Michael, Sara, Matthew (Lindsay), Emma, Kathryn, Lauren, Elizabeth, Andrew, and Damian; great-grandchildren Liam, Kolton, and Trenton; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Friends are invited to call on Sunday at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. and may attend a Funeral Mass on Monday at Saint Peter Cathedral, 230 West 10th Street, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Erie VAMC, Community Living Center, 135 East 38th Street, Erie, PA 16504.
The family would like to thank the incredible staff at the Veterans Administration Community Living Center for the loving care they provided to Caesar and his family. They made a difficult two years much easier to bear.
