Carla Witt

Carla Witt, 54, of Erie, passed away on Monday,December 4, 2017 at her home after battling cancer. She was born in Erie on April 11, 1963, a daughter of Silvia DiNino Vitale and the late Bruno Vitale.

Carla's love of life was captivating to whomever she met and was known for her big, bright smile.

Carla graduated from Strong Vincent High School in 1981 where she excelled in various activities, particularly track, receiving much recognition for her athletic abilities. While attending Strong Vincent she met her future husband, Joseph Witt. The young couple soon became inseparable and married on August 23, 1986. Shortly after Carla and Joe welcomed a son and a daughter into their new family life.

Carla was employed at Erie Insurance and later retired from Belle Valley Elementary School. She made many lasting friendships from both employers and truly enjoyed working with the children at Belle Valley. Carla continued her active lifestyle, having been a member of The Pennbriar Athletic Club and tending to her pristine lawn. Carla was very fortunate to have made many caring friends as a member of Pennbriar.

While balancing a job and maintaining her personal health, she never lost her value of family. Carla volunteered with various school activities for her two children and always had a houseful of kids. She also opened the family's home to any family and friends, always thinking of the needs of others before her own.

Carla carried on her warm, welcoming spirit to her three grandchildren, Ava, Eliana, and Bruno ensuring to make them each feel special and loved. She especially enjoyed taking her grandchildren to the Erie Zoo.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 31 years, Joseph Witt, a son, Marc Witt (Tabbatha); a daughter, Jessica Witt; two sisters, Franca Mihna (Gary), Paula Neff (Andy), as well as her twin brother Dr. Carlo Vitale. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Ava, Eliana and Bruno Witt, many nieces and nephews and extended family.

Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Friday from 4 p.m. until the time of service there at 7 p.m. A Celebration of Carla's life will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at the Bourbon Barrel, 1213 State Street, from 12 Noon until 5 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Erie Zoo, 423 West 38th Street, Erie, PA 16508.

The family would like to thank those who sent their thoughts and prayers, and supported Carla and her family through her journey. A special thank you to her mother and siblings as well as a very special sister-in-law who went above and beyond as caregivers.
