Carmen S. Italia
Carmen S. Italia, age 84, of Erie, died peacefully Thursday, July 5, 2007 at Presque Isle Rehabilitation and Nursing Center following a brief illness.
He was born December 29, 1922 in Erie, a son of the late Dominick and Florence Mussari Italia. Carmen was a veteran of the United States Navy Armed Guard serving in World War II and the Korean War. He worked for 34 years at Eriez Magnetics as a Traffic Manager, retiring in 1984. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church and a former member of the Traffic Club of Erie, the Nuova Aurora Club, the Sons of Little Italy and the Glenwood YMCA. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, gardener and cabinet maker. He was also known as "The Magnet Man" by school children throughout the area.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Lucille Italia, Alma Jordano, Palma Gangemi and Elvera Heubel.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Eleanor Spada Italia of Erie; one son, Carmen S. Italia, Jr. and his wife Regina of Royersford, PA; two grandchildren, Alicia and Michael Italia and two great granddaughters, Gina and Nicole Italia. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and may attend a service there on Monday at 10:30 am followed by a Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart RC Church, 816 West 26th Street, at 11:00 am. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
