Charles D. "Chuck" Kobel, age 81, of Erie, formerly of East Gore Road, died Wednesday, August 25, 2010. He was born February 28, 1929 in Georgetown, Ohio, a son of the late Ernest and Lucy Smith Kobel.

He served 2 years in the Army and 2 years in the Navy during the Korean War. He worked as a policeman for the city of Erie for 17 years, retiring in 1974. He was a member of the Retired Policeman's Association and had served as their secretary and was a member of American Legion 571. He was an enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and loved working outdoors. He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jordano Kobel and three sisters, Florence Nelson, Betty Kobel and Jean Kane.

He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl A. Kobel; one son, Charles E. Kobel and wife Rose both of Erie; two brothers, Richard Kobel and wife Kathy of Jamestown, PA and Don Kobel and wife Sharon of Lionesville, PA; three sisters, Nellie Coulson of Tomball, TX, Carolyn Barthelmes of Scottsdale, AZ and Darlene McNeece and husband James of Louden, TN and four grandchildren, Krista Williams and husband Chris, Carly Hilinski and fiancé John Rosick, Ryan Kobel and wife Jill and Rachel Kobel-Waha and husband Russ. He is further survived by three great-grandchildren, Kaden, Cooper and Keaton and several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Saturday evening from 7 to 9 pm and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm and may attend a Funeral Service there on Monday at 10:00 am. The Erie Police Retired Association will be convening at the Funeral Home on Sunday at 4 pm. Burial will be in Mary Queen of Peace Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Saint Martin's Center, Inc., 1701 Parade St., Erie, PA 16503.

The family would like to thank the Erie VA Medical Center Hospice for their care and compassion during Chuck's final days.
