David Brooks
David "Brooksea" Brooks, 87, of Erie, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Fairview Manor. He was born December 13, 1934 in West View Park, PA, a son of the late Alfred J. and Mable August Backstrom Brooks.
David worked at Copes-Vulcon, American Sterilizer, AO Smith Corporation, Bucyrus-Erie and was the owner of Industrial Supply Company. Following his retirement, he earned his U.S.C.G. 100-ton Masters Captain License and piloted the "Lady Kate" and the "Victorian Princess" on Presque Isle Bay for several years.
David was a former member of Lawrence Lodge and 3rd Degree Mason. He was one of the founders of the Erie Chapter of Ducks Unlimited. He was a member of Erie Yacht Club since 1985 and the Presque Isle Partnership. He enjoyed dancing and won numerous dance contests.
David coached MYAA baseball and served as their president. He was a swimming and water polo official for 15 years and was one of founders who established the swimming and water polo officials for the City of Erie. He was inducted into the Erie County Aquatic Hall of Fame in 2020.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Louise Penna Brooks and his son, Curtis J. Brooks.
He is survived by his son, Craig D. Brooks (Keith Edmonds); daughter-in-law, Denise Brooks; one brother, Alfred Craig Brooks (Marilyn); and one sister, Robin Brooks Carson (Kit). He is also survived by one grandson, Travis Brooks and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are private. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, Erie, PA 16502.
