David L. Hunter Sr.
David L. Hunter Sr., 79, of Erie, died Thursday, April 15, 2010 at Fairview Manor after an extended illness. He was born June 17, 1930 in Erie, a son of the late James Glenn and Eunice Harrah Hunter.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a graduate of East High School, Class of 1948 and the GE Apprentice Course. He worked at Erie Malleable Iron for 35 years and along with his wife were the owner and operator of Hunter Rental until his retirement. He was a board member of the Haborcreek School for Boys and served a term as their president. He was a member of the American Foundry Society, Erie Cursillo #156 and a life member of the East Erie Turners, Elks Club and Erie Yacht Club.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, June Veroneau.
He is survived by a his wife of 57 years, whom he met at Wayne School in Kindergarten, Mary Patricia Sullivan Hunter of Erie; 5 children, Attorney David L. Hunter Jr. and wife Susan of Erie, Nora Latcovich and husband Daniel of Erie, Timothy Hunter, MD and wife Maria of Myrtle Beach, SC, Maureen Bell and husband Thomas of Erie and Michael Hunter and wife Joan of Owensboro, KY; one brother, John Hunter and wife Jean of Lady Lakes, FL and two sisters, Vivian Stoltz of Meadville, PA and Barbara Hordusky and husband Roger of Lady Lakes, FL. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, David Hunter III and wife Jessica, Sara, Madeline and Martha Hunter, Erin, Katie and Daniel Latcovich Jr., Timothy Hunter II, Paul and Isabella Hunter, Joseph Bell and wife Christina and SrA Jonathan Bell and fiancée Jenny Gaerttner, Michael Hunter Jr., Kathy, Laura and Thomas Hunter, 2 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm and may attend a service there on Monday at 9:30 am followed by a Funeral Mass at Saint Peter Cathedral, 230 West 10th Street, at 10 am. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to the Erie Cursillo Movement, 429 East Grandview Blvd, PO Box 10397, Erie, PA 16514.
