David L. Schaeffer

David L. Schaeffer, 70, of Erie, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2018 at his residence after a brief illness. He was born August 16, 1947 in Erie, a son of the late Elmer and Florence Disen Schaeffer.

David was a retired postal carrier, had managed Lakewood Bowling Lanes, and was a teacher at Holy Trinity School.

He enjoyed his time at the casino and made many friends there. He was a member of the Siebenbuerger Club and an avid Cleveland Browns and Indians fan.

David loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events..He was always available for family and friends.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Elmer Schaeffer, Jr.; a brother-in-law Dan Nick; and a sister-in-law Carolyn Schaeffer.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Marilyn Nick Schaeffer of Erie; two beloved daughters, Amy Magee (Don) of Cary, NC and Heather Bithell (Tom Kaye) of Erie; one brother, Tom Schaeffer (Karen) of Surpise, AZ; brothers-in-law, Tim Nick (Chris) of Erie and Tom Nick (Jodell) of Troy, OH; sister-in-law, Janet Amann (Paul) of Waterford, PA; and six grandchildren, Braden, Rylie, Olivia, Allyson, Kaylee, and Tyler. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and may attend a Funeral Service there on Monday at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Great Lakes Hospice, 1700 Peach St #244, Erie, PA 16501.
