Dominick James Jordano

Dominick James Jordano, 87, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the family he adored and loved on Sunday, December 30, 2012. Dom was born on April 2, 1925 in Erie, a son of the late Eugene and Fortuna Leone Jordano. He was a proud graduate of Strong Vincent High School and served in the United States Army as a MP.

Dom worked for Marx Toys and the Erie School District. For 24 years he worked in various capacities for the late Mayor Louis J. Tullio, including his last position as Director of Parks and Recreation until his retirement in 1986.

Known for his incredible wit and sense of humor, upon moving from Liberty Street Dom stood on the front porch and said, "Give me liberty or give me death" and after 30 years on 35th Street he quipped "I left a little bit of heaven at 911."

Dom loved golf playing nearly every weekend with his dear friends, Elmer and Richie Di Tullio. His last hole-in-one happened at the age of 81. "Pollock" his nickname because of his blond hair and blue eyes as a child, was passionate about his friends and liked sharing stories with them. He enjoyed reading, especially biographies and followed the flow of the political climate, both locally and nationally. Dom also enjoyed gardening and caring for his plants around his home.

Dom's greatest legacy was his family. He was so very proud of each of them and always provided an incredible amount of guidance and unwavering support to his family regardless of circumstance. His strength and courage was inspirational and provided a great sense of peace and grace through his final day. Dom's influential spirit lives in each of them.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Muzzie, Max, Tony, John and Louie Jordano; sisters, Marian Panuzzo and Mary Kobel; brothers-in-law, Joseph Gredler, Chuck Kobel, Ralph Panuzzo, and sisters-in-law, Alma Jordano, Pia Jordano, Fifi Jordano and Jean Bugaj.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary M. Gredler Jordano; children, Jeffry John Jordano and his wife Trisha, Joseph John Jordano and his wife, Michell and Jacqueline Jean Jordano and Curtis; beloved grandchildren, Julian, Jayla, Matthew, Joseph and Sophia; a brother, Gene Jordano; two sisters-in-law, Jannette Gredler and Barbara Wagner; two brothers-in-law, Robert Gredler and wife Debbie and Barney Gredler, and dear friends, Buddy and Tina Malone and Jay Ciminio. He is also survived by many dear nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, godchildren, and of course the "Old Gang".

Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. and may attend a Funeral Mass on Friday at Saint Paul RC Church, 1617 Walnut Street, at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will be private at Gate of Heaven Cemetery Mausoleum.
