Douglas J. Valerio

Douglas J. Valerio, 75, of Erie, passed away Thursday March 4, 2021, at the Cleveland Clinic with his loving family by his side. He was born January 19, 1946, in Erie, a son of the late Anthony and Antoinette Comi Valerio.

Doug graduated from Strong Vincent High School, Class of 1963. He worked for 25 years as a firefighter with the Erie Fire Department. He was blessed with a long retirement and during that time he enjoyed spending time with family and friends and attending auctions and garage sales. Doug was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He was also very talented in all types of construction and could build or fix just about anything.

Doug is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Ellen Valerio; his sons, Douglas J. Valerio II (Christine) and Thomas A Valerio (Julianne); his daughter, Ann M. Friedemann (Jeff); and his brothers, Gary Valerio, Kenneth Valerio (Debbie), and David Valerio. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, Erie, PA 16502, on Tuesday from 3 p.m. until the time of the funeral service there at 6 p.m. Visitors must wear masks and abide by social distancing practices. Burial will be private in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org.
