Efthem "Tim" Demosthenes Chiamardas
Efthem "Tim" Demosthenes Chiamardas, age 96, passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2008 in West Palm Beach, Florida. Tim was born June 17, 1912, in Brockton, Massachusetts and lived most of his life in Erie, Washington, DC and Arlington, Virginia. He was a great Washington Redskins Fan. He relocated to West Palm Beach, FL in 2006 to be with his family. He graduated from the University of Missouri School of Journalism after studying at the University of Pittsburgh and did his graduate work at the University of Illinois and Robbins College.
"A Newspaper Man," he worked as an Editor and Promotions Guy throughout his life at the Army Times, Erie Times, Erie Dispatch, Washington Daily News, Post Masters Gazette, Health Education and Welfare Department, and Health and Human Services Department, where he retired in Washington, DC .
He was an open water lifeguard on the Lake Erie Peninsula. He served as an Army Sergeant in the 25th Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron in World War II. He was a member of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association "AHEPA" and the American Legion.
His father was a Greek Orthodox Priest in Brockton, MA and Erie, PA. Tim was an outstanding dad to his son, Charles Efthem Chiamardas, of West Palm Beach, FL, grandfather of Chase Christopher Chiamardas, and Cydney Evelina Chiamardas, and uncle of Jim and Peter Chiamardas.
He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Orlando Chiamardas, daughter-in-law, Laurie Ann Hewitt Chiamardas, two brothers, John and Charles Chiamardas, and two sisters, Amelia and Bessie Chiamardas.
Friends may call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm. and are invited to Funeral Service on Saturday at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 4376 West Lake Road, at 10 am. Trisagion Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 8pm. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
