Ellen A. Forfia Lachesky

Ellen A. Forfia Lachesky, resident of Independence Court of Erie, formerly of Cherry Street, died Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at Hamot Medical Center. She was born in Norton, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Fausto and Mary Molini Forfia.

She lived in Erie most of her life. She was an advocate for intellectually disabled children of the Erie Community, took care of the elderly, did Mission work for the Benedictine Sisters and was a foster parent. She was a member of the Rosary and Altar Society at Saint Paul RC Church, Italian American Women's Club and the Ladies Auxiliary at the Maennerchor Club. She was a member of EDWGA and former city golf champion. She was an avid golfer, Duckpin bowler and tennis player.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death her husband, Michael E. Lachesky; one son, Robert Lachesky; three brothers, Edward, Jess and Richard Forfia and four sisters, Ramona Novelli, Cora Parenti, Lena Dougherty and Clara Nowaczyk.

She is survived by three daughters, Suzanne Gallagher and husband Neil of Easton, PA, Mary Beth Daley and husband Ralph of Manassas, VA and Terese Lachesky of Erie; one son, Michael R. Lachesky of Rochester, NY; a daughter-in-law, Paula Lachesky of Erie; two brothers, Guy Forfia of Erie and Robert Forfia and wife Ann Marie of NJ and two sisters, Frances Hamilton and husband Jim of Erie and Anita Balducci and husband Louis of Bel Air, MD. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. and are invited to a service there on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at Saint Paul RC Church, 1617 Walnut Street, at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Erie Home for Children and Adults, 226 E 27th St., Erie, PA 16504 or to Saint Paul RC Church, 1617 Walnut St., Erie, PA 16502.
