Florence Barberio Susi
Florence Barberio Susi, 84, of Millcreek, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2016 at her residence. She was born January 28, 1932 in Erie, a daughter of the late Joseph and Annie Farrell Barberio.
Florence was a 1950 graduate of Strong Vincent High School. She later returned to school to obtain a college degree in Elementary Education, graduating from Villa Maria College in 1963. She taught in the Erie School District for thirty-one years, retiring in 1993.
She was a member of Saint Andrew Church and Ladies Guild, PASR Teacher Retirement Group, the Tuesday Morning Golf League at Southwood Golf Club, and Minks Dinner Group (a fun dinner group of professional teachers). She was a former member of the Women's Club of Erie.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of fifty-five years, Angelo Susi in September of 2007; her sister, Victoria Barberio Demchak; and brother, Guy Barberio.
She is survived by her three sons, Jesse Susi MD (Janet) of St. Louis, MO, Mark Susi of Portland, OR, and Thomas Susi of Erie; eight grandchildren, Bryan Susi (Katie), Stephanie Susi, Nicholas Susi, Scott Susi (Tonya), Karyn Susi Korman (Dave), Matthew Susi, Jason Susi and James Susi; and one nephew, Ronald Demchak. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren, Clair Marie, David, Mark Leo, Marie Pearl, Ethan Thomas and Avery Grace.
Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. and may attend a Funeral Mass on Wednesday at Saint Andrew RC Church, 1116 West 7th Street, at 1 p.m. Entombment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
