George Edward Maslar Jr

George Edward Maslar, Jr., 85, of Erie, passed away Friday, August 25, 2023 at Nightingale Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born November 5, 1937 in Beaverdale, PA, a son of the late George and Helen (Valko) Maslar.

George was a graduate of Beaverdale High School in Beaverdale, PA. He was a member of the undefeated 1954 Beaverdale football team. George then enlisted in the United States Air Force and served as an aviation mechanic for the elite USAF Thunderbirds Air Demonstration Squadron at Nellis Air Force Base. He then joined the Pennsylvania State Police in 1960 and earned the rank of Corporal, retiring in 1992 from Troop E, Girard, PA.

He had many hobbies in life including golfing, travelling, landscaping around the house, and supporting F.O.P. functions. George enjoyed following his favorite sports teams, the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians, and Penn State. He was also a member of many social clubs in the area including the Seibenburger, Elks, Zukor, American Legion, and was an active member of Saint George Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bernadette Arents Maslar; his brother, Victor Maslar; and one sister, Margie Charney.

He is survived by his wife, Maryetta (Mauthe) Maslar; three sons, Stephen G. Maslar, Brian P. Maslar and his wife Kelly, and Gregory J. Maslar and his wife Jennifer; three sisters, Irene Dezelan, Katherine Stupi, and Veronica Dahlin; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 from 3:00 until the time of the Funeral Service there at 6:00 p.m. Interment will be private in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Beaverdale Public Library (www.cclsys.org/beaverdale).
