George R. Banko

George R. Banko, age 81, of Erie, died Monday, September 26, 2011 at Abington Crest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after an extended illness.

He was born February 5, 1930 in Erie, a son of the late George J. and Anna Chinke Banko. He lived in Erie his entire life. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and was a decorated war veteran. George had worked at Riley Stoker for 25 years, retiring in 1992.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Bencivenga Banko and his second wife, Anna Scalera Banko; one brother, Edward Banko and one sister, Elizabeth Leone.

He is survived by two daughters, Ann Logue and fiancé Don Madden and Teresa Wilczynski and husband Patrick; one brother, Arthur Banko and wife Kathleen; one sister, Olga Banko and one granddaughter, Lauren Logue all of Erie. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Wednesday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service there at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family.
