George Y. Rabbat
George Y. Rabbat, age 89, formerly of 3708 Beech Avenue, died peacefully on Monday, January 14, 2008 at Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center
He was born March 18, 1918 in Jaffa, Israel, a son of the late Joseph and Mary Francis Rabbat. He lived in Erie since 1980. He worked as an educator, journalist and had owned and operated several newspapers in the Middle East. He traveled extensively in Asia and Europe. He enjoyed music, reading and kept well versed on current affairs. His past years were spent at Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center under the loving care of the nurses and nurse’s aids.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hanneh Morcos Rabbat. He is survived by three daughters, Angela Hakim and her husband Nadar of San Diego, CA, Laila Boddenberg and her husband Gerhard of Holland and Suad Johnson and her husband Keith of Macon, GA and two sons, Khalil G. Rabat and his wife Monet of Erie and Joe G. Rabbat and his wife Annette of England. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren including Silvana, Stacy and Sandra Rabat of Erie, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to attend call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm and may attend a Service there on Saturday at 10:00 am followed by a Funeral Mass at Saint George RC Church, 5145 Peach Street, at 10:30 am. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
