Harvey Louis Kanter Ph.D.

Harvey Louis Kanter, Ph.D., of Erie, passed away Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, at Walnut Creek Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness. He was born in Boston, Mass., the son of the late Milton and Sarah Stopper Kanter.

Harvey was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, and earned his doctorate at the University of Texas at Austin. His career in education included work at the University of Houston, Lamar University, Mercyhurst University, and most recently at Gannon University.

Harvey loved sailing and family trips to Cape Cod. He was a wise and compassionate man.

In addition to his parents, Harvey was preceded in death by a brother David Kanter.

Harvey is survived by his wife, Jane Benson Kanter, of Erie; a daughter, Sara VanSlyke (Kenneth); a son, Jared Kanter (Paula), both of Austin, Texas; a brother, Alan Kanter (Paula), of Orange County, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Alexandra and Nathan.

He is also survived by his beloved brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Thomas N. Cacchione and Joan Benson-Cacchione, and dear nieces and nephews, including Beth, Josh, Milo, Marshall, Nick, Annie, Rachel, Eli and Remi.

No calling hours will be observed. A service will be held at the family's convenience.
