Helen E. Silay Malena

Helen E. Silay Malena, age 93, of Erie, died Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at The Village at Luther Square. She was born February 3, 1920 in Erie, a daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Hornyak Silay. She lived in Erie most of her life.

Helen was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, floral arranging and gardening. She was a past active member of St. Stephen Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank B. Malena; one brother, Joseph Silay and one sister, Mary Kalley.

She is survived by two sons, Anthony R. Malena and wife Carol of Erie and Dr. Richard F. Malena and wife Edye of Phoenix, AZ; one brother, Stephen Silay of Erie; four grandchildren, Nicole, Natalie, Anthony Jr. and Frank and two great-grandchildren, Patric and Spenser. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and may attend a Funeral Mass on Saturday at Saint George RC Church, 5145 Peach Street, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
