Henry J. Kanyar

Henry J. Kanyar, age 83, of Erie, died Friday, February 12, 2016 at St. Mary's At Asbury Ridge following an extended illness. He was born July 27, 1932 in Erie, a son of the late Henry J. and Anna Lazar Kanyar. He was a graduate of Cathedral Preparatory School and Gannon University.

He retired from Stroehmann Baking Company (formerly Firch Baking) in 1996.

He enjoyed golf, bowling, playing cards and was a lover of Western movies. He was a life member of the Siebenbuerger and Sunflower Clubs.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two sons, Keith W. and Ronald L. Kanyar; one sister Ann M. Hunt and a niece Nancy A. Paterson.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marjorie McLean Kanyar of Erie; two daughters, Kathleen D. Barone (Daniel) Harleysville, PA and Isabella R. McCarthy of Erie; two sons, Jim H. Kanyar (Donna Twichel) of Erie and Richard A. Kanyar (Bonnie) of West Hartford, CT; one sister Rose M. Ziegler of Erie; and nephews William H. Rearick and Kenneth Rearick, of Texas. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street on Monday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a service there on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Stephen of Hungary RC Church, 1237 West 21st Street at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery.
