James E. Markiewicz
James E. Markiewicz, age 53, of Erie, died Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at his residence.
He was born March 12, 1956 in Erie, a son of the late Chester A. and Laura M. Kornacki Markiewicz. He lived in Erie his entire live.
He was employed by the PLCB as a manager of the Wine and Spirits Shop on West Lake Rd. He was a local wine expert and buyer for the PLCB and he often traveled nationally and internationally for his job. He was an avid golfer and sports fan who followed the Erie Otters, Erie Bayhawks, Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Browns, Boston Bruins and Celtics. He was a member of the Slovak National Club, Sportsman's Club, CYS Club and Lakeview Country Club. He was a five gallon blood donor for the Community Blood Bank and was an amateur comedian.
He is survived by his lifetime best friend, Nicole Ciotti of Erie; one son, Santino of Erie; two brothers, David A. Markiewicz of Erie and Thomas J. Markiewicz of Berwick, PA; three sisters, Marylou Kasputis and her husband Dr. David Kasputis of Berwick, PA; Susan Comstock and her husband John and Ruth Kniowski and her husband Dan both of Erie, PA. He is also survived by three nephews, David and Omar Gadalla and Kevin Kniowski and two nieces, Carrie Kniowski and Mara Kasputis.
Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Friday evening from 7 to 9 pm and may attend a Funeral Mass at Saint Casimir Church, 629 Hess Avenue, on Saturday at 11 am. Memorials may be made to the Community Blood Bank, 2646 Peach St., Erie, PA 16508 or to the Greater Erie County Chapter of the American Red Cross, 4961 Pittsburgh Ave., Erie, PA 16509.
