Joann Starr Maggio

October 24, 1944 — March 26, 2025

Joann Starr Maggio, of Erie, PA received her wings on the starry night of March 26, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.

Born October 24, 1944 in Hickory, NC, daughter of Nolan and Dollie (McCrary) Starr.

Joann shared 59 wonderful years of marriage with her devoted husband and best friend, Joseph Maggio.

Joann was a loving mother to Stacy (Matthew) Stephens and Michael (Lynette) Maggio. She cherished her role as a grandmother to six beautiful granddaughters—Karly Stephens, Lindsay (Tony) Bowers, Sydney (Christopher) Bleggi, Selene (Joseph) DePalma, Nyla Maggio, and Gianna (Poco) Nuber—and as a great-grandmother to Mikayla, Adele, Gabriel, Caden, Vanessa and Brynlee. Her children were her greatest blessings.

Joann had a way of making everyone feel like family and was known to many as “Grandma Joann.” She formed many special relationships; one she cherished most was with her bonus daughter Karen Marks and family.

She found immense joy in celebrating each holiday to the fullest by cooking delicious Italian meals and hosting gatherings filled with laughter and warmth for all. Her infectious laugh and zest for life could brighten any room. Her sense of humor made her effortlessly funny. Known for her honesty, she was always offering advice whether it was wanted or not; it came from a place of deep care.

Joann enjoyed listening to the oldies, watching “Wheel of Fortune”, “Jeopardy” and anything found on the Hallmark Channel. Shopping and fine dining were among her favorite leisures, as was traveling to Myrtle Beach to visit her family and soak up the sunshine.

Her sweet tooth perfectly matched her sweet nature. She always managed to enjoy dessert before dinner. All of “her kids” will gladly carry on this tradition!

Joann’s legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to her family will shine in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to have been part of her life.

A special thank you to Asceracare for their loving support during her final days especially Brandy, Annie, Darla, and Briana.

Private funeral arrangements are being held at the convenience of the family. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
