John A. Novello Sr.
John A. Novello Sr., age 86, of Erie, died Monday, March 10, 2008 at Hamot Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born April 2, 1921 in Erie, a son of the late Pasquale and Antoinette Chianello Novello. He lived in Erie his entire life. John served in the United States Army in the European Theatre during World War II in the infantry under General Patton. He had worked at Hammermill Paper Company for 42 years. He was an avid bowler and his hobbies included working with stained glass. He was also a member of the Nuova Aurora Club, the Erie Maennerchor Club, the Siebenbuerger Club and a lifetime member of the East Erie Turners.
In addition to his parent he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Novello and Samuel Novello of the United States Navy. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Menga A. Cacchione Novello; one son, John A. Novello Jr. and his wife Barbara of North Hollywood, CA; one daughter, Patricia A. Esper and her husband Dr. Robert J. Esper of Erie; three grandchildren, Dr. Christopher J. Esper and his wife Michele Esper of Cleveland, OH, Melanie M. Esper and Lisa M. Esper both of Erie; one sister, Helen Damico and her children Ronald, Barbara and Annette.
Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Thursday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm and may attend a service there on Friday at 12:30 pm followed by a Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart RC Church, 816 West 26th Street, at 1:00 pm Entombment will be in Gate of Heaven Mausoleum.
