John A. Vogel

John A. Vogel, age 83, of Erie, died Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at his residence after a brief illness. He was born October 15, 1924 in Erie, a son of the late Joseph and Elsie Nemenz Vogel. He lived in Erie his entire life. He served in the United States Marines during World War II. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Ushers since 1976 and enjoyed playing cards.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Loretta Vogel. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Agnes "Aggie" Luciano Vogel; one daughter, Beverly Van Maele and her husband James; two sons, John Vogel and his wife Carol and David Hosu and his fiancée Betti Burnley; one sister, Sally Malina and her husband Ralph all of Erie; four grandchildren, Amy Okey and her husband Ben, Anthony Van Maele and his wife Christina, David Hosu and his wife Susan and Heather Hosu and six great-grandchildren, Ryan Okey, Connor, Cole, Antonio, Mackenzie and Madison Van Maele and Aggie Lynn Hosu. He is also survived by a special niece, Michele Gathers and her husband Steve of Erie and several nieces and nephews

Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Wednesday from 5 to 9 pm and may attend a service there on Thursday at 9:30 am followed by a Funeral Mass at Blessed Sacrament RC Church, 1626 West 26th Street, at 10:00 am. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
