John Barczynski
John Barczynski, 80, of Erie, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, August 8, 2010 with his loving family following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on October 23, 1929 in Erie, PA, a son of the late John and Anna Tyczkowski Barczynski.
John attended East High School then proudly joined the US Army where he trained as a paratrooper. After retiring from Accu-Form Plastics in 1993, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He was a founding member of Our Lady of Peace Parish where he was actively involved in their Athletic Association and coaching girls' varsity basketball. He was an avid fisherman and a skilled handyman. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in their many sporting activities and proudly taught most of his family to play pinochle.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Leona Barczynski and Theresa Winston and a grandson, Jacob Neff.
He is survived by the love of his life of 58 years, Marcella Ryan Barczynski; six children, Marsha Niebauer and husband Donald, Charlotte Deitch and husband Daniel, Mary Neff and husband Lane, John J. Barczynski, Carol Novisk and husband Terry and Jennifer Kehl and husband Steven; 16 grandchildren, Dennis Deitch and wife Jerilyn, Mary L. Deitch, Lesley Fortebraccio and husband David, Laurie and Lisa Niebauer, Ricki Lynn, Louis and Joseph Neff, Samantha, John and Amanda Barczynski, Taylor and Trevor Novisk and Emily, Steven and Alyssa Kehl and 4 great-grandchildren, Caitlyn, Ella and Jack Deitch and David Fortebraccio. Also survived by two sisters, Monica Dobry and Otillia Schiller, one brother, Joseph Robert Barczynski and wife Joanne and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Tuesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm and may attend a service there on Wednesday at 9:30 am followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Peace RC Church, 2401 West 38th Street, at 10 am with Rev. Theodore Marconi celebrating. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Our Lady of Peace Athletic Association, 2401 West 38th Street, Erie, PA 16506 or to Hospice of Metropolitan Erie, 202 East 10th St., Erie, PA 16503.
