John F. Laney

John F. Laney, age 71, of Millcreek, died Friday, June 22, 2012 at UPMC Hamot following an extended illness.

He was born October 17, 1941 in Newton Falls, Ohio, a son of the late John G. and Goldie Cessna Laney. He was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and James King.

He grew up in Indiana County, PA, before moving to Erie and graduated from Purchase Line High School in Commodore, PA. He had served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

John worked at General Electric until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, camping and his dog Dixie.

He is survived by his wife Karen A. Nelson Shaw Laney of Erie; one daughter, Wendi L. Laney and her fiancé Anthony Arlington, of Erie; one son, John G. Laney and his wife Kim, of Lake City, PA; two step-daughters, Wendy DiTullio and her husband Joel, of Erie, and Monica Cottrell and her husband of Greg, of Nazareth, PA. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Friends may call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, Monday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend services at service in the funeral home on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Erie County Memorial Gardens.
