John J. Nicoll
John J. "Johnny" Nicoll, age 84, of 1209 West 28th Street, died peacefully, Monday, November 19, 2007 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born January 3, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York, a son of the late Harry and Agnes Schirmer Nicoll. He was a graduate of Jamaica High School He served in the United States Navy on the USS Boston during World War II; where his ship was involved in many decisive battles in the South Pacific. He was a lifetime member of the USS Boston Shipmates, Inc. He worked for Flying Tigers (Federal Express) for over 26 years, retiring in 1988. He enjoyed shopping and was an avid golfer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Rasmussen Nicoll and his twin brother, Hank Nicoll.
He is survived by his three sons, John H. Nicoll and his wife Marie of Saratoga Springs, NY, Joseph P. Nicoll and his wife Cathy of Saratoga Springs, NY and James M. Nicoll and his wife Jenny of Erie and his sister-in-law, Millicent Nicoll of Port St. Lucy, FL. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Kayleigh, Melissa, Tyler, Alden Joseph, Seth and Aiden Joseph and many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and may attend a service there Saturday at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart RC Church, 816 West 26th Street, at 9:30 a.m. Entombment will be in Mary Queen of Peace Cemetery.
