John M. Donofrio

John M. Donofrio, age 85, of Millcreek, peacefully went into the arms of our loving Savior on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at the VA Medical Center after an extended illness.

He was born on September 16, 1923 in Erie, a son of the late Michael and Mary Grace Donofrio. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. John received BA Degree in Art from Penn State University, a BS Degree in Education and a MA Degree in Art both from Edinboro University. He taught art at Haborcreek High School for 30 years. He also created trademarks and logos for many Erie Businesses. He was a former member of Saint Paul RC Church and a member of Saint Luke RC Church for over 39 years. He helped compile Saint Paul's Church 100 Year Anniversary Book. He was a member of the "Cherry Street Gang" and an avid Penn State fan.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Rhoda Tevan Donofrio; a son-in-law, Timothy J. Harrington and a brother, Louis Donofrio.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Therese M. Chimenti Donofrio; two daughters, Susan M. Coverdale and her husband Michael and Annemarie Harrington; one brother, Joseph Donofrio and his wife Joanne all of Erie and five grandchildren, Andrew and Abigail Harrington and Alyssa, Morgan and Daniele Coverdale. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 pm and Wednesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm and may attend a service there on Thursday at 10:30 am followed by a Funeral Mass at Saint Luke RC Church, 421 East 38th Street, at 11 am. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
