John Michael Tymchyn

John Michael Tymchyn, 93, of Girard and Millcreek, died Sunday, April 10, 2016 at Saint Mary's at Asbury Ridge after a brief illness. He was born November 17, 1922 n Voorheesville, New York, a son of the late Harry and Michaelina Kulpa Tymchyn.

John grew up on his family's farm in Guilderland, NY. He was a graduate of Altamont High School in Altamont, NY.

John served in the United States Naval Corps during World War II. He flew missions in the Asiatic Pacific and European Theatres. He was a recipient of the Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal and the European Theatre Medal.

He was a member of the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club in Lakewood, NY; American Legion Millcreek Post 773 and VFW Post 470; CYS Club; Siebenbuerger Club; and Our Lady of Peace Church.

He was a lifelong New York Yankees Fan. One of John's fondest memories was playing baseball in high school as a catcher in the Yankee Stadium where he won the New York State Championship for his school. His hobbies included doing crossword puzzles, playing cards, collecting recipes, cooking and baking his sticky buns. He had a passion for history and math and was an avid reader. He loved spending time at his hunting camp Kane, PA. He enjoyed deer hunting and fishing and knew all the good fishing holes in Erie County and beyond.

John was a very compassionate and caring person with a great love for his family and his three dogs, Max, Cookie and Buddy.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife of almost 50 years, Cathaleen "Kay" Charles Tymchyn; two sisters, Anna Carson and Mary Kates; and three brothers, Victor, Harry, and Martin Tymchyn.

He is survived by his second wife, Judy Mileski Tymchyn whom he married on February 14, 2001; step-daughter, Jacki Ball of Harborcreek, PA; brother, Walter Tymchyn of Guilderland Center, NY; sisters, Elizabeth "Betty" Staroba (Stanley) and Gloria Rice of Schenectady, NY; and sister-in-law, Jackie Wilcox of Erie. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

No calling hours will be observed. Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.

John's family would like to thank the staff at Saint Mary's at Asbury Ridge, especially his nurse Sharon, and aide Kathy, for the excellent care they gave him. Memorials may be made to the Anna Shelter, 1555 E. 10th St., Erie, PA 16511.
