John J. Pluta, 95, of Erie, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Saint Vincent Hospital. He was born June 23, 1928 in Erie, a son of the late Frank and Helen (Szczutkowski) Pluta.
John served in the United States Army during the Korean War as a mechanic and was stationed in Germany serving as a member of the post World War II peacekeeping committee.
He worked at GE for over 40 years, until his retirement.
John enjoyed hunting, golfing, home remodeling and carpentry work. He was a member of the Siebenbuerger Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia L. "Cindi" Farbo; son-in-law, Carmen Farbo; seven siblings, William Pluta (Helen), Betty Koper (Eugene "Ducky"), Dorothy Gorczycki (Jerome), Raymond Pluta (Kathy), Rose "Honey" Sciarrone (Angie), Chester Pluta (Twila), and Frank "Jr." Pluta (Lucy); and sister-in-law, Alice Balczon (Bernard).
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Dolores "Dolly" Massucci Pluta; son, James "Jim" Pluta (Ayrn); granddaughter, Jessica M. Farbo; two great-granddaughters, Lillian and Grace Ann Copeland. He is also survived by his dear friend Tom Dick, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street on Wednesday from 4:00 until the time of the Prayer Service there at 6:00 p.m. Burial will be private in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
