Joseph Chiappazzi

Joseph P. Chiappazzi, 82, of Erie, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2024 at UPMC Hamot after a brief illness. He was born August 21, 1942 in Erie, a son of the late Frank and Grace (DiNitto) Chiappazzi.

Joe proudly served his country as a Chaplain in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He dedicated 38 years to working at American Sterilizer before retiring in 2004.

Joe was a selfless man deeply devoted to his faith and family. Family meant everything to him and remained the center of his life.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Diane Welsch and nephew, Frank Welsch.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Nancy Soccoccio Chiappazzi; daughter, Emily L. Chiappazzi (Joseph J. Skinner); son, Joseph F. Chiappazzi; granddaughter, Grace Elizabeth; and niece, Michele Soccoccio. He is also survived by many cousins.

Friends are invited to a Funeral Mass on Saturday, December 14th at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1626 West 26th Street, at 11:00 a.m.
