Lorraine Ashworth Casella

Lorraine Ashworth Casella, 79, of Erie, died Sunday August 24, 2008 at her residence. She was born March 8, 1929 in Bayonne, NJ, a daughter of the late John J. Ashworth and Ann Elizabeth Steckert Ashworth Johnson and the step-daughter of the late Russell Johnson.

She lived in Erie for the past 553 years. She worked for 23 years as the Office Manager at A. Anthony and Sons, Inc., retiring in 1985. She served on the Advisory Board Base Service Unit for Mental Retardation, Secretary Board of Erie Association of Retarded Citizens, Dr. Gertrude A. Barber Center Auxiliary Supervisory Committee and Secretary of the Erie School Employees Federal Credit Union. She was a member of East Erie Turners and South West Lions Club. She was an active volunteer at the Dr. Gertrude A. Barber Center, serving on their dance, sales, spaghetti dinner and card party committees.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 38 years, Edward R. Casella who passed away on November 21, 1989; a son, Donald S. Casella; one brother, Franklin J. Ashworth and a sister, Marie Ashworth. She is survived by two sons, Dr. R. Russell Casella and his wife Nancy of Murrysville, PA and Charles R. Casella and his wife Elizabeth of Chatham, NJ and one brother, Donald C. Ashworth of Scotch Plains, NJ. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson and many nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm and may attend a Funeral Service on Friday at Saint Paul Episcopal Cathedral, 134 West 7th Street, at 10 am. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Dr. Gertrude A. Barber Foundation, 100 Barber Place, Erie, PA 16507.
