Lucio N. Zero
Lucio Nicola Zero, 82, of Erie, died Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Presque Isle Rehabilitation Center. He was born December 14, 1927 in Montenero, Italy a son of the late Francesco and Ercolena Piloto Zero.
He had lived in Erie since 1961. He had worked at Erie Bronze and Aluminum, retiring in 1993. He enjoyed his family, gardening, playing bocci, cooking, and politics. He was a member of St. Paul's Holy Name Society and the Nuova Aurora Society.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Marta Zero, and a brother Florindo Zero and his good friend Anthony "Tony" Portanova. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Dolores Bellucci Zero of Erie; one son, David Zero of Erie; two sisters, Virginia Gonnella of Montenero, Italy and Iole Bonaminio and her husband Fernando of Lorain, OH; and a sister-in-law, Josephina Zero of Montenero, Italy. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, Monday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a service there on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. followed by funeral mass at Sacred Heart Church, 816 West 26th Street (due to the renovation of St. Paul's RC Church) at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Neighborhood Free Clinic, 1608 Walnut Street, Erie, PA 16502 or to St. Paul's RC Church, 1617 Walnut Street, Erie, PA 16502. St. Paul's Holy name Society will hold a Vigil Prayer Service on Monday at 3:00 p.m.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nursing staff at Select Specialty Hospital and Presque Isle Rehabilitation Center for the wonderful care that was given to Lucio during his illness.
