Marc P. DiRaimo
Marc P. DiRaimo, 53, of Meadville, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019 in New Jersey as a result of a motor vehicle accident while providing assistance to another motorist. He was born August 29, 1965 in Erie, a son of the late Steve and Patricia Berry DiRaimo.
Marc was a graduate of East High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1988 and had a distinguished career spanning 21 years. He earned and was awarded several Navy commendations and numerous Navy achievement medals during his extended deployments overseas. Marc also volunteered for joint service duty and served on the ground in Afghanistan supporting Army operations. During this time he was awarded an Army Commendation Medal and a Army Achievement Medal. Marc strived for excellence under every command he served and his service reflects that of a "True Hero".
After his retirement from the Navy he returned to the Erie area and worked as a corrections officer at SCI Albion, retiring in 2018.
Marc loved sports and assisted coaching several youth football and baseball teams throughout his life. His personality was larger than life and he made a lasting impression on everyone that knew him. His passing has left an empty space in the hearts and lives of all who loved him.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Patricia Romba Lada and his niece Laina Real.
He is survived by three sisters, Carol Lucarotti of Erie, Lucy Torres (Tony) of San Clemente, CA, and Stephanie DiRaimo (Dan DeMarco) of Westfield, NY; one brother, Stephen DiRaimo (Debbie) of Oceanside, CA; six nieces, Desi Gil (Geronimo) of Redondo Beach, CA, Dina Radowick (Jim) of Higley, AZ, Andrea Lucarotti Johnston (Scot) of Erie, Tabitha Walls of Erie, Sara Bowden (Matt) of Edinboro, PA, and Sophie DeMarco of Westfield, NY; and five nephews, Anthony Lucarotti (Jennifer) of Erie, Logan Walls (Vanessa) of Syracuse, NY, Dan DeMarco III of Westfield, NY, Stephen DeMarco of Jamestown, NY, and Gabriel DiRaimo of Westfield, NY. He is also survived by several great nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street on Wednesday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service there at 11:00 a.m. with military honors. Burial will be private in Calvary Cemetery.
