Margaret "Mint" Preston McCafferty
Margaret "Mint" Preston McCafferty, 88, of Erie, passed away on Thursday June 9, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family after a valiant four year battle with leukemia. She was born August 28, 1927 in Erie, a daughter of the late Francis and Florence Leaver Preston.
In her younger years Mint worked for her father at Lakes Electric Construction Company and later for Halle Brothers and the VA Hospital.
She was a former member of Erie Maennerchor Club, Elks Club and The Erie Yacht Club where she had a boat named Isle of Mint. She enjoyed Duck Pin Bowling and was a member of Saint Jude Church.
Mint was widowed at a young age and was the matriarch of her family.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands, Joseph McCafferty; father of her children, Jack Roach and Ken Smith; her good friend, Jack Reece; her siblings, beloved sister, Patricia Amendola and brothers, James and John Preston; infant son, Joseph; and recently her beloved son, Michael McCafferty.
She is survived by her two daughters, Kathleen Pianta, Susan Busse and her fiancé Douglas Euliano and her son, Patrick McCafferty. She was granny Mint to Abbey Busse husband Jeff Cole, Fritz Busse, Joe Busse wife Rose, Amanda, Angela, Christine, Thomas, Michael, Caryle, and Joseph McCafferty. She was great-granny Mint to Fritzi Mint and James Joseph Busse, Quinn, Ari Mint and Azler McCafferty, and Lucas and Marly Bielak.
Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Funeral Mass at Saint Jude the Apostle Church, 2801 West 6th Street, Saturday at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Erie DAWN, 2549 West 8th St., Erie, PA 16505. The family would like to thank Dr. Li and the Staff at the Regional Cancer Center and the AseraCare Crew that made Mint's final four years and last days comfortable. The John R.
