Mary A. Perrino Scalzitti
Mary A Perrino Scalzitti, age 85, of Erie, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at St Mary's at Asbury Ridge. She was born on October 26, 1927 in Erie, the daughter of late Joseph and Anna Varletta Perrino.
A lifelong resident of Erie, she was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Parish, with all her children attending Blessed Sacrament School. Mary enjoyed playing Bingo with her sisters and friends at Blessed Sacrament, as well as, playing cards with her many friends and relatives.
For many years she participated in the Sisters Bowling Tournament with the family she so dearly loved. Spending time with her family was the center of her life.
Holidays and family gatherings were spent around the dining room table at her home. No one will forget Mary's Christmas Eve dinner tradition that she carried on from her father, Joseph. Her joy was cooking and her making her legendary pizzelles for a houseful.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters Angeline Marofsky, Phyllis Zack and Rose Perrino.
She is survived by her husband, Timothy J Scalzitti Sr., of Erie; sons, Timothy J Scalzitti Jr., Thomas J Scalzitti both of Erie and John W Scalzitti (Mary Louise) of Brecksville, OH; her two daughters, Patricia S Emery (Edward) of Highland Heights, OH and Pamela S Kwiatkowski (James) of Erie. She was so very proud of her ten grandchildren, Nicole M Barbato (Joseph), Julia E Woodard (Kam), Timothy E Emery, Matthew R Kwiatkowski, TJ Scalzitti, Carla J Scalzitti, Daniel J Kwiatkowski, Therese M Scalzitti, Olivia A Scalzitti and Amanda R Scalzitti. In addition, she had three great grandchildren, Michael Barbato, Logan Barbato and Benjamin Woodard. She is also survived by her loving sister, Theresa Freitas, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and may attend a Funeral Mass on Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Church 1626 West 26th Street, at 10 a.m. Burial will be private in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
Her family would like to express their sincere thanks to the wonderful staff who took care of Mary at St Mary's at Asbury Ridge, including the activities department. You made her experience there a good one.
