Mary F. Calvano, age 90, formerly of West 38th Street, died Monday, October 13, 2008 at Forestview Health Care Center at Springhill. She was born December 28, 1917 in Erie, a daughter of the late Giuseppe "Joseph" and Pasqua "Esther" Caserta Calvano.

She received a B.S. degree in Biology from Villa Maria College and an M.S. degree in Library Science from Western Reserve University. She had worked for the government during World War II as a chemist/biologist. She also worked as a librarian at the Lord Corporation, retiring in 1983. She was an avid traveler and a life member of the Villa Maria College Alumni Association.

She was preceded in death by a twin sister, Frances M. Perilla and a nephew, Roger Perilla. She is survived by a brother, Nicholas Calvano of Erie; three nieces, Carole Jones and her husband, Harlan, "Butch", of Wattsburg, PA, Cynthia Lamb of Pittsburgh, PA, and Sharon Downey and her husband, John, of Erie; and one nephew, Joseph Perilla, of New York, NY.

Friends may call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Thursday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a service there on Friday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Peace RC Church, 2401 West 38th Street at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the John Kanzius Cancer Research Fund, 915 State Street, Erie, PA 16501, or Forestview Health Care Center Activity Fund, 2301 Edinboro Road, Erie, PA 16509.

The family would like to thank the entire staff and administration at Forestview for their love, care, compassion and "hugs."
