Mary M. Cirino

Mary M. Cirino, 88, of Erie, passed away at St. Vincent Hospital on Friday, September 11, 2015 following a brief illness. She was born in Matrice, Campobasso, Italy on April 21, 1927, the daughter of the late Nunzio A. and Assunta DiCorpo Cirino.

Mary immigrated to the U.S. in 1938 at age 11. She attended Roosevelt Jr. High School, and in her early years worked at Murphy's Department Store. She then became co-owner of Cirino's Fine Foods, the family business and was later employed at Miller's Department Store. For the following 40 years and up to the time of her death, she was employed at Klein Plating Works. Besides working, Mary was very active. She enjoyed shopping, casino trips, volunteering at the cookie booth at St. Paul Italian Festival and visiting family and friends. She most cherished the time spent with her three nieces and their families.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Frank Cirino and an infant brother. She is survived by her sister-in-law Palma M. Cirino, her three loving nieces, Mary (Michael) Sansone, Lucy (Steven) Davis, and Rose (Terry) Nelson, and was affectionately known as "Zia Zia", to her great nieces and nephews, Anthony (Becky), Maria (Rob), Michael, Elizabeth, Corinne, Christopher, Alicia, Kristen (Kiel) and great-great niece Olivia. She also leaves to cherish her memory a special cousin, Maria Rodick, her best friend of 75 years, Theresa Marino Baniszewski, and her devoted Goddaughter, Debby Baniszewski (Sunil) Raina. Many cousins, Godchildren, and friends also survive.

Burial was private and held at the convenience of the family.

The John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, handled arrangements.
