Michael J. "Mojo McKay" Sroka, age 62, passed away peacefully with family by his side after a short illness on Monday, April 21, 2025 at LECOM at Presque Isle. He was born on December 31, 1962 in Buffalo, NY, a son of the late Frank and Dorothy (Dembowski) Sroka.
He was a graduate of Hinsdale Central School in Hinsdale, NY and Edinboro University. In the early 80's, Mike started his radio career while attending Edinboro University, volunteering at the college radio station. His illustrious 40-plus-year radio career spanned stints at Erie radio stations K-104 (Michael St. Clair), JET-FM 102 (The Night Owl), and Country 98 (Mike McKay), where he got his start at morning drive. Mike was hired at ROCKET 101 (circa 1991-92) where the infamous radio name Mojo was born. He worked the night shift briefly, moving to the morning show where he spent the next 3 decades playing "the Rock of Erie" and waking up his listeners with his quick wit, humorous bits, entertaining interviews, and celebrity and musical guests. Throughout his tenure at ROCKET 101, Mike would share the stage with great morning show partners like Debbie Ireland, Natalie Massing, Ron Kline, and, most recently, Allan Carpenter. Serving Erie as a radio host was his life's joy, to brighten the listener's lives with a laugh and a smile.
Outside of work, his hobbies included golfing, biking, bowling, and playing basketball. He was also a true fan of both the Buffalo Bills and the New York Yankees.
He is survived by his son, John Patrick "Jack" Sroka; his sister, Carol MacWilliams, husband Thomas, and their daughters, Nicole, Abigail, and Olivia; his girlfriend, Jessica Trost Owens; his nephew, Joseph Agnello; his former wife, Lisa Cappabianca.
