Nicholas A. "Nick" DeBello

Nicholas A. "Nick" DeBello, age 94, of Erie died Saturday, July 3, 2010 at the VA Medical Center.

He was born January 1, 1916 in Erie, a son of the late Dominick and Erceilia Dinino DeBello. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked at Bucyrus Erie for 42 years and then spent the past 30 years as a Florida snowbird. He designed and built his own home and was an avid reader.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Elvira M. "Vera" Scalzitti DeBello.

He is survived by his daughter, Josephine "Jo" Sawyer and husband Dennis of Hot Springs, AR; one son, Dominick L. DeBello and wife Kate of Fort Myers, FL and one sister, Sue Merlino of Erie; 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by cousins, Placido and Antoinette Persuitti and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Thursday at Blessed Sacrament RC Church, 1626 West 26th Street, at 10 am. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Macular Degeneration Foundation, Inc., P.O. 531313, Henderson, NV 89053. The John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, is handling arrangements.
