Phillip G. Calao

Phillip G. Calao, age 91, of Erie, died Monday, August 8, 2011 at his residence after an extended illness. He was born August 17, 1919 in Erie, a son of the late Dominic and Mary Farbo Colao. He lived in Erie his entire life. He served in World War II in the European Theatre where he met his wife of 68 years. He was a member of the Sons of Italy and an avid fisherman and bowler. He was a devoted and loving husband and father.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two daughters, Gillian Calao and Jeanette Rossman and four brothers, Sam Calao, George Colao, John Colao and Joseph Colao.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Rae B. Hedges Calao; four daughters, Wendy Farrell and husband Bob, Maureen Csombok and husband Glenn, Melinda Calao-Koeth and dear friend John and Cynthia Trohoske and one sister, Frances Seifert all of Erie. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, Thursday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and may attend a Funeral Mass on Friday at Saint Paul RC Church, 1617 Walnut Street, at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery
