Ralph V. DeMarco
Ralph V. DeMarco, age 82, of 821 West 24th Street, died peacefully on December 5, 2011.
He was born January 28, 1929, in Erie, PA, a son of the late Michael and Lucia Caserta DiMarco. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Balchunas DeMarco, and brothers, Philip and Dino DiMarco. Survivors include his two children, Sandra and Michael, as well as nieces and nephews.
Ralph was blessed with many talents, being a natural athlete and an all-around handyman. He could do math in his head that others would find difficult to do with a calculator. His ability to analyze and solve problems helped in his military duty and professional career.
He served in the National Guard and the U.S. Army, receiving the Occupation Medal for his work in Germany. He was a corporal in the 112th Infantry, honorably discharged in 1952. Ralph was director of marketing at Buffalo Molded Plastics and Andover Industries, retiring at age 52.
Ralph enjoyed golfing, but usually could be found working around his house and neighborhood. His home became a daily hangout for friends. He was generous to all, whether cutting neighbors' lawns or tipping beyond the norm for anyone in the service industry. He gave much away, but he himself lived simply.
Ralph's strong work ethic was coupled with a compassionate heart. He always made an effort to help others, including pets. Even wild critters would turn up to be fed by his hand. Above all, he made time to help his parents, children, and other relatives. He thought of family from beginning to end.
A private internment will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the family through the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, Erie, PA 16502.
