Richard E. "Dick" Kaufmann, age 81, of Erie died unexpectedly Monday, April 29, 2013 at UPMC Hamot. He was born October 4, 1931 in Erie, a son of the late Emil and Theresa McNamara Kaufmann.

He worked at First National Bank for 42 years at various branches as Branch Manager and Assistant Vice-President.

He was a member of Erie Elks Lodge #67, Fairview American Legion and Millcreek Lions Club.

Dick loved to sing. He sang in Saint Stephen's and Saint Julia's Church Choirs. He participated in the Irish Idol for 6 years singing Danny Boy at Brewerie on St. Patrick's Day, his favorite day of the year. Everyone enjoyed him.

After his retirement he played golf. He also enjoyed spending time at the Peninsula, loved fishing and hunting, and was a Cleveland Indians baseball fan.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Geraldine M. "Geri" Phillips Kaufmann; two daughters, Gwen M. Nietupski of Erie and Gloria M. Herlihy (Bill) of McKean, PA; one son, Richard E. Kaufmann Jr. (Kim) of Girard, PA; one brother, Charles A. Kaufmann (Joan) of Elyria, OH; nine grandchildren, Daniel Nietupski (Justine), Mallory Riazzi (Jamie), Amanda Andrus (Ryan), Laurie Nietupski, Bridget and Brennan Herlihy and Megan, Morgan and Bryce Kaufmann and one sister-in-law, Claudia Phillips of San Francisco, CA. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Thursday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and may attend a Funeral Service there on Friday at 11:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at Saint Julia RC Church, 638 Roslyn Ave., at Noon. The Erie Elks Lodge #67 will hold a service at the Funeral Home on Thursday at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
