Roy M. Bernardini
Roy M. Bernardini, age 93, of Erie, passed away Friday, May 26, 2017 at Saint Vincent Hospital.
He was born on February 25, 1924 in Erie, the son of the late Angelo Bernardini and Inez Venturini Bernardini Trevison. He was a graduate of Tech High School class of 1943.
During WWII, Roy served in the European Theatre with General Patton's 3rd Army, Company G 317th Infantry Regiment, 80th Division.
After the war, Roy became a Union iron worker and painter, eventually becoming a partner in Bernardini and Schmitz Painting and ultimately the sole owner of Bernardini Painting. After 27 years in the painting business, Roy went to work for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Commerce until his retirement.
Roy was a member of numerous social and civic organizations but most of all, he was a GOLFER! He was a member of Lawrence Park Golf Club for over 45 years as well as serving a term on its Board of Directors.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Lois Blair Bernardini; his four year old sister Furlina who passed away in 1926; step-father Patrick Trevison; step-sister Aggie Trevison Fabrizio; step-brother Anthony Trevison.
He is survived by his two sons Richard Bernardini (wife Deborah) of Erie; and Robert Bernardini (Stuart Peterson/Domestic Partner) of San Francisco, CA; three grandchildren; Lindsay Bernardini, Cody Bernardini; of Erie, Kaylee McKinnon (Sean); of Springboro, OH and three great-grandchildren; Morgan McKinnon, Graycie and Daultan Carlson.
The family wishes to thank each and every one of the employees and volunteers at Saint Mary's Asbury Ridge, the Erie Veterans Affairs Medical Center, especially Doctor Sheryl Russ and Regional Home Health and Hospice, for their care and love shown to Roy over the years. In addition, we would like to thank the entire Cicchetti family who adopted Roy as one of their own. He loved each and every one of you! There are many individuals who work daily in obscurity, but have a great impact on the lives of those they serve.
Service and burial will be private at the family's convenience. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Northwest Pennsylvania, 5031 West Ridge Road, Erie, PA 16506 or the Erie Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 135 East 38th Street, Erie, PA 16504.
The John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, is handling arrangements.
