Samuel A. "Butch" DeFazio

Samuel A. "Butch" DeFazio, 76, of Erie, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, March 26, 2017 at his residence. He was born January 13, 1941 in Erie, a son of the late Samuel A. DeFazio, Sr. and Pauline J. Cannavino DeFazio.

Samuel was a graduate of Cathedral Preparatory Class of 1958, attended Berkley School of Music and Boston Conservatory, and received his Bachelor of Arts from SUNY at Fredonia. He participated in numerous jazz competitions and was recognized in Down Beat Magazine for his musical talent.

He was an educator in the Erie School District for over 30 years and worked as a jazz musician in the tri-state area. He enjoyed sports, especially baseball, basketball and horse racing.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Judy DeFazio.

He is survived by his sister, Mary Ann DeFazio Larsen of Erie.

No calling hours will be observed. A private service will be held at the family's convenience. Entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
